TikTok Built an AI That Works Your DMs. Qualifying the Lead Was Supposed to Be Your Job.
TikTok's new Agentic Leads agent holds the qualifying conversation that course sellers have run by hand for years — and no one has said what it costs.

The DM is where the sale happens. Someone watches the video, types "info," and you — or a VA, or your closer — spend eleven messages figuring out whether they can afford a $2,000 program. That conversation is the whole business for a lot of course sellers.
TikTok just announced software that runs it for you.
At Advertising Week New York on October 5, TikTok unveiled a package of AI advertising products under a banner it calls Agentic Commerce. One of them is "Agentic Leads," an AI agent for lead generation available through TikTok Direct Message and on advertiser-owned websites, which captures and qualifies high-intent prospects through AI-guided conversations.
Read that again with your own funnel in mind. The platform is not offering you a better lead form. It is offering to have the conversation.
How it actually works
The agent, called Lead Agent, runs in two places: TikTok Direct Message, and the lead form on an advertiser's own website — which puts an agent TikTok supplies off TikTok and onto a page the advertiser owns. Advertisers build a Knowledge Base and choose which questions qualify a prospect, so qualification moves into the conversation and each lead arrives with context attached.
If you sell a high-ticket program, you already know what that means. The budget question, the timeline question, the "what have you already tried" question — those become fields in a system you don't own.
The metric shifts from how many forms were filled to how many conversations ended with a prospect worth calling.
TikTok isn't stopping at leads. Buy Direct is an in-app checkout that lets users purchase from a brand without leaving TikTok, including one-click purchases from the For You feed using stored payment methods and saved addresses, with in-app order tracking. Brands stay the Merchant of Record, and the solution requires integration with the Universal Commerce Protocol. Shopping Assistant is a conversational agent that TikTok says remembers user needs and gives real-time guidance on product details, shipping, sizing and availability.
TikTok says the shopping experiences are being built with commerce platforms and payment providers including Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza and Stripe.
What TikTok hasn't said
No pricing. The tools are available through eligibility-based advertiser testing, which is a polite way of saying most of you can't touch it yet.
Dates are murkier. One analysis notes TikTok gave no launch dates for Buy Direct, Shopping Assistant or Agentic Leads, and that the only piece confirmed as available in the United States was the ad network. A tracker of the announcement logged Agentic Leads as "will be available," with no date or markets given. Adweek, meanwhile, reported the checkout feature as separate from TikTok Shop, with both shopping features beginning to roll out to users and brands in the U.S. Nobody has publicly reconciled how Buy Direct and TikTok Shop checkout coexist for a seller running both.
"We are enabling advertisers to create work that feels relevant, move at the speed of culture, and drive meaningful business impact," said David Kaufman, global head of monetization product partnerships at TikTok. He also told reporters at TikTok's New York office: "We're trying to move people from discovery all the way through to action, and there's a lot that we can do to bring AI to that journey."
The uncomfortable part
For a coach or course seller, the DM conversation is not overhead. It's where objections get heard, where the offer gets adjusted, where the person decides you're real. Handing it to an agent built by the ad platform that also sold you the click is a different trade than automating an email sequence.
An agency CEO quoted on the website-form version of the product put the design question bluntly. Ziad Foty of Design In DC said the issue is "what behavior are we trying to change, what doubt are we trying to remove, and what decision are we trying to accelerate?"
The money behind this isn't theoretical. TikTok paired the announcements with Kantar data naming it the #1 platform where marketers plan to increase ad spend in 2027 — the fifth straight year — with 84% of marketers currently advertising there.
The agent is coming to your inbox. The open question is whose inbox it really serves.
