Patreon Will Pick Your Prices on November 1. If You Don't Log In, Your Money Stays Paused.

A hard deadline buried in Patreon's help docs lets the platform reprice your members automatically, then hold billing until you consent.

There is a sentence sitting at the top of nearly every billing article in Patreon's help center, and most membership operators have scrolled straight past it: "we'll pause your billing and migrate you using a recommended multiplier."

That is not a warning about a future policy. It is the default outcome for anyone who does nothing.

All creators still on legacy billing must switch to subscription billing by November 1, 2026, and if they don't act before the deadline, Patreon switches them automatically. Billing then remains paused until the creator logs in to consent to the new multiplier or updates the prices themselves.

Read that again with your own revenue in it.

What the multiplier actually does

Per-creation billing is the odd one. Members pay their membership amount per paid post you publish after they sign up, and while they can set a monthly maximum number of posts they'll pay for, they still get access to anything beyond that cap. Those pending bills process on the 1st of the following month.

So a $3 patron is not a $3-a-month patron. They're $3 times however many paid posts you shipped.

Turning that into a flat monthly price requires a number, and Patreon picks it. The help doc for per-creation migration says the monthly tier price is the per-creation price multiplied by the highest number of paid posts published in the last three months, an approach meant to keep members from feeling their payments were unfairly increased. You can apply the maximum multiplier or choose a lower whole number.

Worth noticing: Patreon's iOS migration FAQ describes the calculation differently. There, the multiplier is determined by paid post history and applied to the per-creation price to create equivalent monthly tiers, using the average number of paid posts over the past three months, counting any month without a paid post as zero.

Highest versus average is not a rounding difference. On a $5 tier, a creator who posted 8, 2 and 2 times gets $40 under one reading and $20 under the other. Before you consent to anything, look at the number Patreon proposes for every tier, not the headline percentage.

The pause is the leverage

Automatic migration does not quietly keep the money moving. The billing model changes, but existing charges do not continue unattended, which means affected creators either complete the transition deliberately before the deadline or come back after the automatic switch, make the pricing decision, and confirm billing is no longer paused. No membership charges arrive during that interruption.

A platform choosing your price, then withholding collection until you agree to it, is an unusual piece of product design. It is also entirely documented.

The dates don't line up

Patreon's notice says per-creation creators who need one-to-one assistance must contact Support via their settings before October 15, 2026. The body of the same per-creation article says creators who want help reviewing pricing or communicating changes to members should reach out before October 1, 2026. And the general billing page puts the one-to-one assistance cutoff at September 30, 2026.

Today is September 26. The earliest date in Patreon's own documentation is four days out.

The five-minute check

Start by establishing whether your account still uses a legacy model such as first-of-the-month or per-creation. Accounts already on subscription billing aren't waiting for this migration, and it's the billing settings that decide, not how old the page is.

Then work the proposal: approve the prices or replace them rather than leaving the decision unresolved, tell members if the amount or timing of their charges will change, and after consenting, verify billing is active with no pause or migration prompt remaining.

The switch cannot be reversed, which makes the tier review a one-shot decision. Existing members keep first-of-month billing; new members pay on join and renew monthly on that date.

Editor’s note: A documented deadline that quietly hands pricing control to the platform and stops payouts until you consent — and Patreon's own pages give three different support cutoffs, the earliest four days away.
