You Can Now Run Ads for a Live Masterclass While You're Still Teaching It
Instagram just put a Boost button inside the Live composer, turning a broadcast into an ad that runs across Feed, Stories and Reels while you're on air.

Eleven people in the room. You spent three weeks building the slides, two weeks warming the list, and the live counter says eleven.
There is now a button for that.
Instagram has added an option to boost a live video as a paid ad directly from the livestream composer, instead of only boosting the replay after the broadcast ends — Social Media Today reported the change on September 30, 2026, as a new entry in the existing boost menu that already covered feed posts, Stories and Reels. The live video becomes the ad creative itself, served across Feed, Stories and Reels, and it only runs while you're on air.
It arrives right on top of the bigger change. Meta brought Live video ads, already available on Facebook, to Instagram, with general availability scheduled to begin September 29, letting brands turn a creator's Instagram Live into a Partnership Ad.
What is actually new here
Not the ability to advertise a Live. Creators and marketers could already build ads for upcoming Instagram Live broadcasts through Meta Ads Manager, so functionally this is not entirely new — what's different is launching the promotion from the in-app composer instead of the full campaign setup.
The difference is friction. Tap Boost in the Live composer, pick an audience or take Instagram's suggestion, set start and end times. Instagram's own description: "Your live video is used as the ad creative."
For anyone whose launch economics rest on a live room, that's a different equation. The old model was pre-registration: fill the seats before you go on, then pray about show-up rate. The new model lets paid traffic land on a session that is currently happening, mid-demo, mid-teaching, mid-pitch.
Three caveats before you rebuild your funnel
You buy before, not during. Instagram says you can boost right before going live or schedule in advance, and recommends scheduling at least two hours ahead to reduce ad delivery delays. The ad runs while you teach. The setup still happens before you sit down.
The ad dies when the stream does. Livestream boost promotions only run while the creator is broadcasting, the idea being to show in-progress streams to users who are active right now. No replay spend, no long tail. Whatever you spend has to convert inside the window you're on camera.
It may not be in your account yet. Instagram Live video ads were scheduled to begin general-availability rollout on September 29, but as of October 1 Meta's live shopping page still described them as in beta for Instagram, so availability varies by account. Worth noting too that the live-commerce side of this launched narrow: at launch in the US, only customers of five partner platforms — CommentSold, Firework, LiveMeUp, Sprii and TalkShopLive — could convert streams into ads.
The part course sellers should think hardest about
A viewer who taps in from an ad at minute 38 has missed your entire teaching block and arrives directly at the offer. Every live-launch script ever written assumes the room started with you. This one doesn't.
Which means the pitch has to be re-enterable. Recap loops. A pinned comment with the link. A reason to stay for someone who has no idea who you are and watched you for ninety seconds.
The commercial case for live selling is not subtle either — the format is reported to convert at 9 to 30 percent against the 2 to 3 percent typical of standard ecommerce, which is why Meta keeps shoving chips onto this square.
The quiet consequence: the live room stops being a reward for list-building and becomes a media buy. Anyone with budget can now fill a seat count that used to take six months of audience work to earn.

Editor’s note: Live launches have always been capped by how many people you could get into the room before you went on. That cap just became purchasable — with real limits worth reporting.
